Troubleshooting

The lecture console appears but there is no sound or slides:
Make sure you have REAL PLAYER 8 BASIC installed on your computer.
Push the PLAY button on the audio window to allow the Real Audio to buffer.
Audio is playing but the slides are not changing:
Depending on your Internet connection and traffic, net congestion will vary.
Make sure there is only one browser interface active (Internet Explorer 5.0 or higher is recommended)
Push the stop button and then push the play button to allow the Real Audio to re-buffer.
If slides still do not change, try advancing the forward/reverse tab to allow re-buffering.
If slides are still not changing, exit the class, shut down your browser and log-on again.
AOL users may have some difficulty during peak hours of traffic.
AOL users should use Internet Explorer 5.0 or higher. Using the AOL BROWSER is not recommended. Try to re-access the Internet directly through Internet Explorer 5.0 or higher.
The Real Audio window has a black band (possibly on the bottom of the window blocking out the time display and forward/reverse control):
Push the STOP and PLAY button to help complete the console download. After pushing PLAY, try moving the forward/reverse tab to allow for re-buffering. Then return the tab to the beginning of the lecture. Try running your mouse over the Real Audio window without clicking.
The slides look grainy and pixelated:
Check to make sure your monitor setting is set at a minimum of 256 colors.
The area where the slides are being displayed is too small:
Ideal monitor setting to see the slides is 800 by 600 pixels. This can be changed in your Display Settings. Other settings can be used, however, the slides will not be as large and easy to see.
Message appears saying that you have lost contact with the streaming server:
Make a note of where you are in the lecture by reading the time display. Push the STOP button. This will return you to the beginning of the lecture. Then push PLAY and slide the forward/reverse tab back to the appropriate position guided by the time display.
"Net Congestion" displayed on Real Audio window:
This may occur with slower Internet connections (phone line) or during peak hours of Internet traffic. Try viewing the webcast during off-peak hours. If the message continually interrupts your webcast, you should notify your Internet Service Provider.
My Internet connection is timing out:
Double click on your Real Player icon. From the menu bar click on VIEW, then choose PREFERENCES, then choose CONNECTION, then click on network time-out settings.
Default settings:
Connection Time: 20
Server Time-Out: 90
Default settings usually work well. Check with your Internet Service Provider or network administrator about adjusting these settings if necessary.
Sound quality sounds scratchy and distorted:
Your sound card may be an older version. It is recommended that you upgrade your sound card to handle 16-bit quality. You can also try to disable 16-bit sound (use 8-bit only). Double click on your Real Player icon. From the menu bar click on VIEW, then choose PERFORMANCE and here you can disable 16-bit sound.
